How do I replace a VW flip key shell?

Replacing a Volkswagen flip key shell is a straightforward process and can usually be done at home in a few minutes.

Simply check compatibility by making sure the replacement shell matches your VW model. Pay attention to details such as button layout and LED position, as these can vary between different Volkswagen keys. Then open the old key carefully using a small flat screwdriver or similar tool to gently pry open the existing key shell. Transfer the internal components including:

• Key blade
• Transponder chip
• Electronic circuit board

Take care not to damage any components during removal.

Fit the components into the new shell ensuring everything sits securely in the correct position. Now just reassemble the key by snapping the two halves of the new shell together firmly until fully closed.

Finally, test the key to ensure all functions operate correctly.

Do I need to reprogram my Volkswagen key?
